pH Value Information
The pH values relating to the URTEKRAM products are defined as follows:
Shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps have a slightly acidic pH value of 5.0 +/- 0.5 with the exception of the Baby All Over Wash which has a pH value of 6.0 +/- 0.5 (neutral to slightly alkaline which is recommendable for sensitive skin).
The bar soaps' pH value lies between 9 and 10, i.e. they have an alkaline pH value.
Why are pH values so important?
The average pH value of healthy human skin lies between 4.1 and 5.8. This varies from individual to individual and depends on the area of the body being referred to. The scalp as a slightly acidic pH value which provides a climate in which a healthy, strong hair structure thrives and fungi or harmful bacteria cannot breed.
What happens when, for instance, the pH of the scalp is out of balance?
An irritated scalp, in particular, brittle hair, dandruff, etc. can be the result of an unhealthy pH level. Alkaline hair care products may cause the cuticle of the hair strand to open which gives it a dull and dry appearance. This, in turn, means that the hair is no longer protected against harmful external influences.
The pH values of URTEKRAM shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps are similar to that natural, rather acidic pH levels of our skin, thus providing protection and care for a healthy climate for the skin.
We often see that products are described as being "pH-neutral" which means that the pH value lies at 7 while "pH skin neutral" depicts a value of around 5.5. URTEKRAM shampoos and shower gels are thus pH skin neutral and deliberately not pH-neutral which better supports the slight acidity of the skin and hair.
