Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential to many body processes, in particular the development and renewal of the skin. It keeps the tissues lining the digestive system, respiratory tracts and reproductive organs healthy. Vitamin A is also needed for healthy vision, bones, teeth and genetic material. It is usually well absorbed, especially when adequate protein, zinc and vitamin E are available.
Vitamin A comes in 2 forms, as itself or as its precursor, beta carotene. The carotene family is a group of red and yellow pigments found naturally in plants. The carotenes act as powerful antioxidants but it's important to look for supplements that are made from natural sources of carotenes as the most common source for beta-carotene is synthetic.
