Vitamins

Vitamins are divided into fat-soluble vitamins and water-soluble vitamins, depending on how they are absorbed. Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, require the presence of fat carriers to be absorbed while vitamins C, B and bioflavonoids are easier to assimilate because they dissolve in water. Since excess water soluble vitamins are eliminated through urine, they need to be replenished more often than fat-soluble vitamins.

Vitamins play an important role in growth and development, metabolism, immunity and digestive function. Eating a varied, balanced diet full of wholegrains, fruit and vegetables will help you meet your vitamin requirements. If, for some reason you can't meet your body's vitamin needs through food alone, supplements may be a good choice for you.
