Fibre

Fibre

The primary role of fibre is to keep the digestive system healthy, helping to move food through the gut. Proper elimination of waste and bacteria from the colon is largely dependent upon a high fibre diet, since fiber binds toxins and aids their passage through the colon. A diet rich in fibre has also been shown to help lower cholesterol and regulate blood glucose levels.

Common dietary sources of fibre include wholegrain foods, fruits and vegetables. Psyllium husks are another popular source of fibre, helping to cleanse the system and soothe symptoms of irritable bowl syndrome. A high fibre diet becomes even more important as we get older as the digestive system slows down with age.
